Out of Orbit, Still in Rotation

Born out of the realization that the creative process is different to every artist, Out of Orbit, Still in Rotation is a personal expression that refers to a person or situation that is no longer following the expected norms or conventions, but is still continuing to exist and evolve in some way.

The concept of this collection began when I moved to Sacramento. Adjusting to a new city and its people, juggling a new career and maneuvering through the perils of adulthood all consumed my time, inevitably pushing my passion for photography and the arts to the side. I struggled to see my space in the creative realm, as I could not dedicate myself towards executive projects. I leaned on creating when I felt inspired or when I found the time to. I put down my bulky gear, picking up light point and shoot film cameras on random trips with friends;  I scribbled in my sketchbook during my lunch break… though I did not realize it in the moment I was still moving in my creative path.

Each individual piece, all of which only served as a record of time in a moment, soon highlighted a pattern in my work. Still maintaining some level of continuity whether it was photography, drawing or writing, I realized that I indeed was progressing and excelling in my craft. This collection showcases that resilience and adaptability. Even as I explore the sense of being out of orbit, I also aim to show how we can still find a way to keep moving forward, even when the path is uncertain or not similar.

My pieces are meant to inspire an urgent sense of exploration for life as it is. This collection serves as an experience, encouraging viewers to continue moving in their path, without sizing theirs to others, as equally great and satisfying outcomes can blossom from it. I hope to create a connection with others who have also felt adrift in their craft (or just in life) at times, and to remind us all of the resilience and strength that lies within us.
